Having a baby is one of the most exciting times of your life. We offer complimentary "New Parents" consultations with our doctors. This will give you an opportunity to visit our office, meet with one of our pediatricians, and learn about the quality services provided by our office.
The visit can be a telemedicine visit. If you have specific questions or concerns, this is a good time to discuss your questions with your new baby's doctor.
We know how important it is to find a pediatrician that best suits your growing family's needs. Our pediatricians share in your joy - having cared for 1000's of newborns - and look forward to partnering with you on your exciting journey. Nothing is more fun and rewarding than caring for your newborn baby, and helping you to provide an environment in which both you and your baby will thrive and develop.
Getting Acquainted Visit
Please call our office to schedule your complimentary prenatal "get acquainted" visit. During the pandemic, we suggest this visit be a virtual visit where we can see one another and we can answer any questions you may have. While most offices charge for this visit in our area - we do not. It is free to you.
Hospitals
Dr. Weidman has privileges at the following 3 hospitals - Tarzana's Providence Cedars Sinai Hospital, Northridge Hospital Medical Center and Los Robles Hospital. He is the only pediatrician on staff at all three hospitals in our community.
When you are being admitted to the hospital for your delivery, please inform the hospital staff that your Pediatrician is Dr. James A. Weidman. The hospital will notify our office, and he will attend to your baby during your hospital stay.
Upon discharge, please call our office and schedule your baby's first office visit within 1-2 days after being discharged from the hospital. Please download and complete the New Patient Forms at patient-registration-2021.pdf. You can either bring the completed forms to the office or email the forms and a copy of your insurance card to our secure email: [email protected]
You must add your new baby to your insurance plan within 30 days of birth!
Adding your newborn is something that only you must do, and can do – even though the insurance company knows that the mother is pregnant- they will not add a newborn until you ask them to.
Call your insurance agent, your insurance company, or your employer’s human resource department., and ask them what you need to do to add your baby (and complete your newborn baby’s enrollment process) to your insurance plan. If you don’t add the baby within 30 days from birth – your insurance will not let you add the newborn at a later date, and you will have to pay for all newborn care which will be very expensive to you. (This includes the visits by the doctor to examine your newborn at the hospital, discharge your newborn, and all office visits and vaccines. You will have a minimum of 9-10 office visits during the first year of birth.) Mom's insurance will pay for the hospital charges, and some insurance plans may cover the baby during the first 30 days of birth. Every insurance plan is different - that is why you have to call them. It usually takes 2-3 weeks for an insurance company to add the baby to your plan after you call them.

Same-day sick appointments are available. As your baby doctor, we will take you into a room immediately - you will not see a waiting room full of patients as we schedule patients with enough time to thoroughly evaluate your child, and answer all of your questions.

Expecting Parents Questions
Will I have help in the hospital learning how to nurse my baby?
Yes. We want you to nurse, but only if you can, and are so motivated to breastfeed. The hospitals usually have a basic nursing handout, and you can access a good resource for nursing here.
Is there a list of things we should buy ahead of time for the baby?
You don’t need much, and a simple list would include, but is not be limited to: Car Seat, Newborn or “size one” disposable diapers OR cloth diapers, Baby Wipes, Butt Paste or Diaper Cream, Petroleum Jelly, Digital Rectal Thermometer, Infant Acetaminophen, and Saline Nose Drops.
